Engine replacement options for My 1998 PRE 2200WT with 350 MAG MPI

I've own a 1998 PRE 2200WT powered by a 350 MAG MPI engine since 2013. Over the years, this engine has caused me quite a few headaches and reliability issues, now I'm thinking it's time for a replacement. I'm looking for recommendations on different engine options that would fit well, offer better performance, and be more reliable. If anyone has experience swapping out this engine or suggestions for upgrades, I'd really appreciate the insight

What type of engine issues are you dealing with apparently that made you start thinking about repowering? There actually aren't much choices for repowering, Mercury has a 6.2L inboard engine, same block as what you have, and Marine power still makes small block Chevy engines. I recommend sticking with a small block Chevy to save some money, since you wouldn't need to change as many parts like its hoses.

I am mostly dealing with overheating and some fuel system quirks. I'll look into the Mercury 6.2L and small block Chevy options, sticking close to the original definitely sounds smarter for cost and compatibility.

It makes total sense to stick close to the original design, definitely saves you from a lot of trouble down the road! By the way, have you figured out what's been making things heat up yet?

A good modern option would be the MerCruiser 6.2L MPI or the 6.2L DTS for more power and reliability, it offers better fuel efficiency and smoother performance. Its a direct replacement in many cases and should fit with just very minimal modification. Or, some opt for a modern GM-based crate engine with marine conversion kits. Just make sure your outdrive can handle the new engine's output

What about the 383 MAG Stroker? More torque and higher speed and you're sticking with something that's almost a direct replacement. Might need to do a re-prop to get the most out of it.
